NASRULLAH ASKERI BECOMES FIRST BHATKAL PLAYER TO SCORE HALF CENTURY IN MPL THIS SEASON

Mangaluru March 24 2018: The Mangaluru Premiere League cricket tournament is up and going and is now progressing towards the second phase of the tournament, where the teams are throwing everything at their oppositions in order to secure a place for themselves in the knock out round of the tournament.

Players from Bhatkal who are playing in the tournament are yet to put up any significant performance in the league this season.

However, on Saturday one of the senior player from Bhatkal, Nasrullah Askeri played a fine knock of 60 runs to single handedly sail the team (Ali Warriors Kudla) towards victory against Bedra Bulls, by helping warriors post a defendable target when every other batsman of the team looked vulnerable in the seaming conditions.

Nasrullah, top-scored for his team in the inning while scoring 60 off 41 deliveries with 9 boundaries and two sixes.

Ali Warriors received the early blow in the very first over when Kranthi Kumar was caught by Rajath Hegde off Naveen MG, and Nasrullah was joined by Prithviraj Shekhawat in the middle. Nasrullah kept his cool and scored determinedly and helped the team out of danger by stiching a fine 88 runs partnership with Shekhawat (32 off 31) before departing the crease when the team total was fine 97-1 in 10.5 overs. He was done by bowler Bharath Kondaje.

Soon Bharath Kondaje ran through the middle and lower order of Warriors and bagged 6 wickets in his 4 overs by conceding 21 runs in his spell. The outstanding spell by Bharath restricted Warriors for only 141 all out in 19 overs. Only three batsmen from the team managed to reach two digits score (Nasrullah 60, Shekhawat 32, Anurag Bajpai 11)

In the second innings, a good combined bowling performance by the bowling unit of warriors led by Prithviraj Shekhawat who bagged 4 wickets for 15 runs in 3.3 overs helped the team win the match by 17 runs.

Team Elegant is currently topping the ranking charts after winning all of its 3 games while Ali warriors Kudla is placed second who has won 2 games and lost 1 in its 3 games, followed by Karkala Gladiators and Coastal Digest at number 3 and 4 respectively on the points table.
